MARCO AMARELLI
COMPOSER. SOUND DESIGNER.
THE MUSIC I MAKE
BIO
Marco Amarelli is a film composer based in Rome, Italy. His music is emotive, cinematic, and atmospheric. His scores range from gentle piano and strings to dreamy synths and unexplored electronics sounds, but also some very dark and impactful music. Marco’s work was featured at the Intonations Festival in Saint Petersburg with his score to “XIII”, a psychological thriller inspired by the thirteenth canto of Dante’s Divine Comedy.
He has a long-standing collaboration with director Ivano Iglio, scoring “XIII”, “I Cinque Anelli”, and “Stasera Non Tornerò” — dramatic films exploring themes of femicide, homophobia, and the hidden struggles within domestic walls.
He has also composed the score for “Storia di una bella e di una bestia” by Simone Pascale, and music for two animated shorts produced with the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Cinecittà: “Viscere” by Andrea Barbato, a dreamlike journey between life and death, and “Handle with Care” by Alessandra Mastromattei, a moving story of sisterhood where love transforms stillness into life. These works have been screened at international festivals including the Luksuz Film Festival, Giffoni Shock, and Eastern Europe Film Festival.
Marco also worked as a sound designer on the feature film “Resvrgis”, which was selected at Alice nella Città – Rome Film Festival, Sitges Film Festival, Festival International du Film Fantastique de Gérardmer, and Les Étranges Nuits du Cinéma 2024. He is currently designing sound for “La bambina di Chernobyl” directed by Massimo Nardin.
In addition to his film scoring work, Marco also composes and performs with his neo-classical and electronic duo ALMA NOX. They currently work on their next EP release.
